Ashanti Douglas, popularly referred to as Ashanti and born in Glen Cove New York United States on October 13th 1980. She is an American songwriter, singer and actress. Ashanti was a star when she was young teenagers, and she was then signed by Murder Inc. Records by 2002. The same year, she was featured as a guest on fat Joe's What's Luv? Both Fat Joe's What's Luv? Through Foolish and The What's Luv at Number One She became the first woman with two songs in the Billboard Hot 100 chart top Ten of the United States. It was the first female artist holding the highest two positions on the Billboard Hot 100 in America including Foolish at number one and what's love at number 2. Tina Douglas, her mother was a former dance teacher. Ken-Kaide Douglas is her father. She is the eldest and she has a Kenashia Shia who's her older sister. Douglas named Ashanti Shia Douglas after the Ashanti Empire from Ghana in which women had power and influence. Douglas hoped Ashanti would take inspiration from this example. James her father was a prominent civil rights activist who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s. Ashanti's mother discovered the talent of her daughter when she heard her singing Mary J. Blige's Reminisce. Ashanti appeared as a child part-time actress in Spike Lee's Malcolm X during 1992. She also appeared in Ted Demme's Who's the Man? Ashanti was also featured in a few music videos. This includes K.R.S. - Act One's "MC's like They don't know" and 8-Off Ghetto girl. After being sought out by a number of record labels including Bad Boy and Jive Ashanti was unable to make it as a vocalist. The singer continued to tour at New York, and spent time at Murder Inc. studios hoping to get a break. Ashanti initially appeared as the background singer for Big Pun on the song "How We Roll". Also, she was on the Fat Joe's song What's Luv? and Ja Rule's Never On Time. The song sample she uses in the debut single Foolish comes from DeBarge's Stay with Me which was released in 1983. Ashanti dropped her self-titled debut album in 2002, with Irv Goti's Murder Inc. label. The Declaration her fourth studio album was out on June 3rd, 2008. Hey Baby (After The Club) hit radios and digital platforms on the 16th of October. She was in the film Christmas in the City and was Latasha the character Montclair from Army Wives. The song she sang Rock wit U was sampled by British rapper Aitch for his hit song Baby on 10 March 2022.
